Law Seminar on the Role of Judiciary in Bangladesh

Anis Rahman OBE chaired a Law seminar organised by the Society of Bangladesh Lawyers in the UK. The seminar entitled ‘The Role of Judiciary and Lawyers for the protection of Democracy and Human rights in Bangladesh’ was held on 20 September 2011 in London.

Anis introduced the seminar by highlighting two issues on how Bangladesh emerged as a sovereign nation and an independent state in 1971 and the second issue was about the written Constitution of Bangladesh.

Anis welcomed 2 senior Judges from the Supreme Court of Bangladesh Hon Mr Justice Mamtaj Uddin Ahmed and Hon Mr Justice Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik and a former Chairman of the Bar Council and a part-time Judge of the High Court of Justice Mr Stephen Hockman QC and an Academic and Barrister Mrs Nora Sharif. They spoke extensively on Democracy, Rule of Law and Human Rights.

The seminar was followed by a Q & A with an audience of 150 lawyers.
